Crosswinds Marsh Engagement Photography
Crosswinds Marsh is one of our favorite places for engagement photos in Southeast Michigan. We’ve photographed around six or seven engagement sessions here, along with wedding-day portraits for couples who wanted something a little more natural and outdoorsy. With wetlands, trails, bridges, trees, open fields, and plenty of room to explore, Crosswinds Marsh gives couples a lot of variety without needing to visit multiple locations.

Why We Love Crosswinds Marsh for Engagement Photos
There’s a little bit of everything here.
You can photograph among the trees, walk along the trails, find open grassy areas, use the marsh and wetlands as a backdrop, or take advantage of the wooden bridges throughout the property. The variety makes it easy to create a gallery that doesn't feel like every photo was taken in the same spot.
We especially love the way the landscape changes throughout the year. Fall is particularly beautiful at Crosswinds Marsh, when the changing leaves add color throughout the trails and surrounding scenery.
It's also a location where you can let the session feel more like a walk together rather than simply moving from one photo spot to another. We'll walk, talk, explore, and stop whenever we find something worth photographing.
Sunset Engagement Photos at Crosswinds Marsh
One of our favorite opportunities at Crosswinds Marsh is the main walking bridge around sunset.
When the sun starts dropping behind the landscape, the bridge creates a beautiful leading line while the surrounding marsh and trees provide a natural backdrop. It's the kind of setting that works especially well for couples who want their engagement photos to feel romantic and genuine rather than overly posed.
The changing light also gives us several different looks throughout the session, from brighter natural portraits earlier in the evening to warmer, more dramatic images as the sun gets lower.

What to Expect During Your Session
There will be some walking, so comfortable shoes are a good idea. That's part of what makes the location work so well, though. Rather than staying in one small area, we can explore and use different parts of the marsh as we go.
There are also bathrooms available on site, which is always a nice bonus during a longer outdoor session.
Because Crosswinds Marsh is a popular outdoor photography location, there's a good chance we'll encounter other photographers and visitors while we're there. We simply work around them and keep moving. There are enough different areas and backgrounds that we can still create plenty of variety.
