Elizabeth Park Engagement Photography
Elizabeth Park in Trenton is one of the places we've photographed more times than we can count. We've done somewhere around 25 to 30 engagement sessions here, along with wedding-day photography for couples who wanted to take advantage of the park's scenery.
For us, it's also one of those locations that's simply easy to love. It's close to home, it's beautiful, and there's an incredible amount of variety packed into one riverside park. Between the Detroit River, pedestrian bridges, boardwalks, wooded areas, open spaces, and trails, we can create a completely different session depending on the season, weather, and light.

Why We Love Elizabeth Park for Engagement Photos
The biggest advantage of Elizabeth Park is variety.
You don't have to choose between water photos, wooded photos, open landscapes, and architectural elements. We can work all of those into the same engagement session.
The park sits along the Detroit River and includes a long riverwalk, several pedestrian bridges, walking trails, and plenty of natural scenery.
We love using the bridges, the river, the boardwalk areas, trees, open grass, and quieter sections of the park depending on what the light is doing that day. Sometimes the best photos are right along the water. Other times we'll head into the trees or find a completely different backdrop.
That's what makes Elizabeth Park work for just about anyone. You don't have to have a specific photography style to enjoy it.
Elizabeth Park Sunset Engagement Photos
Sunset at Elizabeth Park can be gorgeous.
The Detroit River gives us an open horizon and beautiful evening light, while the bridges and walking paths give us natural ways to frame the two of you. As the sun gets lower, we can move around the park and take advantage of the changing light instead of staying in one location.
It's especially nice when we can combine the warmer sunset light with the water and one of the park's pedestrian bridges.
There Is More to Elizabeth Park Than the River
If you've only seen the riverfront section of Elizabeth Park, you might not realize how much else there is to photograph.
One of our favorite things about the park is a wooded trail that can be surprisingly easy to miss if you don't already know where it is. It's a completely different look from the riverfront and gives us another opportunity for more intimate, natural photographs.
We'll choose our route based on the day. Weather, season, crowds, and especially the direction and quality of the light can all change which parts of the park make the most sense.
That means an Elizabeth Park engagement session doesn't have to look like every other Elizabeth Park engagement session.
Engagement Photos at Elizabeth Park in Every Season
Elizabeth Park isn't limited to spring and summer.
Fall is beautiful here, with the trees adding color throughout the park and along the trails. But even winter can work surprisingly well. The bridges, river, boardwalk areas, and bare trees create a different kind of scenery, and the lack of leaves can actually open up some views that aren't available during the warmer months.
If you're willing to embrace the season, Elizabeth Park can work throughout much of the year.
What to Expect During an Elizabeth Park Engagement Session
Elizabeth Park is a large park, so expect to do some walking.
There are hills and stairs in some areas, and the best photographs aren't necessarily all right next to the parking lot. That's part of what gives us so much variety, but comfortable shoes are definitely a good idea.
The park is also a popular place for photography, so it's not unusual to see other photographers and couples there, particularly during popular times. We simply work around the activity and find our own spaces.
There are year-round restrooms near the playground, according to Wayne County.
Wedding Photography at Elizabeth Park
We've also photographed several weddings at Elizabeth Park and have photographed wedding-day portraits throughout the park.
Elizabeth Park is home to Chateau on the River, a wedding venue located within the park along the Detroit River. Wayne County describes the Chateau as a venue for weddings and other events, with a river-view terrace and a Main Hall that accommodates up to 190 guests.
That makes the park particularly useful for couples getting married at the Chateau. You can have the convenience of an actual wedding venue while still having an enormous outdoor setting available for portraits.
And because we've spent so much time photographing at Elizabeth Park, we already know there's much more to the location than simply taking a few pictures by the water.

After 25 to 30 engagement sessions here, Elizabeth Park is a location we know extremely well.
We know the bridges, the riverfront, the wooded trail, the boardwalk areas, and the places where the light tends to work best. But we also don't want every session to follow the exact same formula.
We'll explore with you, adjust to the weather and lighting, and make use of whatever the park gives us that day.
