Pine Knob Mansion & Carriage House Weddings
Pine Knob Mansion and Carriage House in Clarkston are two of the most beautiful wedding venues we've had the opportunity to work at in Michigan. We've photographed and filmed weddings at both locations, going back to 2019, and Pine Knob remains one of our favorite places to shoot.
What makes Pine Knob so special for us as photographers and videographers is the sheer number of possibilities. It feels like there is a great backdrop in almost every direction. Beautiful landscaping, gardens, fountains, bridges, trees, architecture, open views and the rolling grounds surrounding the property give us an incredible amount to work with throughout a wedding day.
If you're looking for a Clarkston wedding venue with beautiful scenery and plenty of variety for wedding photography and videography, Pine Knob is hard to beat.
Pine Knob Mansion
The Mansion is particularly impressive. The architecture is beautiful inside and out, and the building itself provides some of our favorite backdrops on the property.
The grounds surrounding the Mansion add even more variety. Depending on the time of day and the weather, we can move between open areas with beautiful light, shaded greenery, gardens, fountains, bridges and architectural features. There are so many options that we're able to build a portrait session around the conditions of the day rather than being limited to one or two designated photo spots.
The Mansion also has a gorgeous, spacious bridal suite upstairs, giving the getting-ready portion of the day a comfortable and attractive setting for photography and video.
For couples who want their wedding photography to include both beautiful architecture and extensive outdoor scenery, the Mansion gives us an enormous amount to work with.
Pine Knob Carriage House
The Carriage House has a different feel from the Mansion, but it is still a beautiful wedding venue and a fantastic place for photography and videography.
The Mansion offers more architectural backdrops, and we personally prefer the look of the Mansion itself. But the Carriage House has plenty of beautiful surroundings of its own, with the Pine Knob grounds providing countless options for portraits, first looks and wedding-party photos.
The Carriage House also has its own parking area and dedicated spaces for the bride and groom to get ready, making the wedding-day experience convenient for couples and their guests.
Photography & Videography at Pine Knob
One of our favorite things about Pine Knob is how much variety the property offers.
There are sunny areas, shaded areas, greenery, structures, water features, open views and architectural backdrops. That variety is especially valuable because the "best" location can change throughout the day. A spot that looks incredible in one lighting situation can look completely different later when the sun moves or the weather changes.
Rather than having to force every couple into the same portrait location, Pine Knob gives us the freedom to look at the conditions on the wedding day and find the places that look best at that particular moment.
It's an ideal property for first looks and portraits because there are so many different environments within the venue. We can create variety in your wedding gallery and wedding film without having to leave the property.
The Wedding-Day Experience
We've always had a great experience working with the Pine Knob staff. The staff has been phenomenal and makes the day easy for couples and vendors alike.
One thing couples should know about the Mansion is that it sits up on a hill, with parking located down the hill. Valet service is available, which is especially helpful for guests who may have difficulty walking the incline.
The Carriage House has its own parking area, making access a little more straightforward.
At the Mansion, the outdoor area is typically where the dance floor and reception activity takes place. That's an incredible setup when the weather cooperates, but couples planning an outdoor reception should keep the weather in mind. If rain or severe weather moves the reception indoors, the Mansion has less space to accommodate everything compared with the outdoor setup.
The Mansion's bathrooms are also located on a different floor, which is something worth knowing when planning the layout and guest experience.
One of Our Favorite Pine Knob Weddings
Our most recent Pine Knob wedding, Melanie and Billy's, is a great example of why we love working at this venue.
The weather was perfect, the guests looked incredible, and Melanie and Billy were an amazing couple to photograph and film. With beautiful conditions and a property this scenic, we had the opportunity to take full advantage of everything Pine Knob has to offer.
